A Few of our Fall Faves...

We took an unexpected summer hiatus, but the Chic & Awe duo is back, and just in time for our favorite season too!  Here are a few of our favorite things this fall...
The first step to getting your home ready for fall is lighting a scented candle! We love this one from Williams-Sonoma, and of course, this Leaves-scented one. // A wool tartan blanket is a tailgating essential. // We embrace everything pumpkin-related in the fall and want to try this Penne with Creamy Pumpkin Sauce recipe from Martha for dinner. // Decorating with gourds makes fall decorating a cinch! // Our favorite fall spirits are Woodchuck Amber Cider & Blue Moon's Harvest Moon. // Don't these slippers look so cozy?! // Trust us when we say, pick some of this Spiced Pecan Pumpkin Mix up and host a brunch, stat! // Fisherman Sweaters are back in a big way this fall and this one won't break the bank. // Lauren made these pumpkin cake donuts when Amber visited and they were delicious!

You can view even more of our fall faves over on Pinterest!

Cute Correspondence

We're big fans of snail mail here at Chic & Awe – isn't the best when you get an unexpected card in your mailbox from a friend?  When we first saw the "holla back, yo" card on Pinterest, we knew we had to track down the designer and we found it!  Enter Spoon & Sailor, a small letterpress studio based in Rhode Island. Her cards feature the perfect one-liners, don't you agree?

We're also loving the witty animal cards...
Have you come across any great stationery companies recently? Kate Spade and Rifle Paper Co. are two of our faves!

Lauren & Amber

Monogrammed Handbags

At Chic & Awe, we couldn't agree more with Reese Witherspoon's quote, “My rule is, if it’s not moving-monogram it!”  We are in love with all of these chic options for everyday use...

Lauren has used the BLVD Sunday Tote on the regular for the last few years -- it's highly recommended!

Which one is your fave?

House Portraits

We are in love with the idea of a custom house portrait -- whether it's for a first home or forever home, we can't think of a better gift for the person in your life who has everything!

There are so many different artists on Etsy to choose from, but here are a few of our favorites...
Artists from the top right:

Chic & Awe's St. Patty's Weekend...

The Chic & Awe duo went all out for St. Patrick's Day!  Here are few snapshots from our weekend...

We rocked mint green nails (we're both obsessed!)
We had stout tastings and Black & Tans...
Lauren made cheddar bacon meatloaf (so amazing) & shamrock shaped dinner rolls
Amber gifts her husband Micah with something at every holiday (what a lucky guy!)
Lauren's (very Irish looking) niece Isla couldn't be any sweeter!
Amber stocked up for the holiday & washed pretzel sammies down with Lucky You Pale Ale for lunch
Lauren indulged in both Irish Car Bomb and Shamrock Shake-flavored cupcakes - so good!
And we topped off the weekend with homemade Guinness Floats for dessert!
On Friday we shared our suggested St. Patty's Day Soiree outfit and here's our friend Maria rocking the ensemble!  Aren't The Greissings the cutest!?!

Necklace: J.Crew (in stores, not online) // Bracelet: J.Crew (old, similar style here
Dress: Shoshanna // Tights: Hue // Shoes:  Ann Taylor

How was your weekend?  Were you Irish for the day like us ;-)

Friday, March 15, 2013

We really get into all of the holidays at Chic & Awe, and St. Patrick's Day is no exception!  We will be spending the weekend wearing green (emerald is the pantone color of the year) and drinking Jameson and Guinness (at least the husbands will!)  We will probably have Champagne as we toast to our friends:

My friends are the best friends
Loyal, willing and able.
Now let’s get to drinking!
All glasses off the table!

Our Chic and Awesome friend Maria will be rocking the ensemble below, so be sure to check back Monday for her pic and our weekend recap.  Don't forget to stock up on bacon, egg & cheese supplies -- a BEC is the Chic & Awe hangover cure, and we already know we are going to need it!!!

Sláinte!

Hey Home Girl

We are loving these home t-shirts
They're only $25, made in the USA, and a portion of profits are donated to multiple sclerosis (MS) research.  A total win-win all-around!

How cute does it look dressed up with a blazer and statement necklace!  Perfect ladies night out attire!

Aztec Secret Healing Clay Mask

It's rare for the Chic & Awe duo to be together in person since we live about 6 hours apart from each other -- thank God for FaceTime!  However, Amber & I are bridesmaids in an upcoming wedding for our dear friend Jess and she happened to have her final dress fitting up here in Connecticut.  So it was the perfect opportunity for Amber to hop in for the ride. (Sidenote - you'll be seeing a lot of Jess on our blog over the next few months as we'll be celebrating two bridal showers for her, her bachelorette in Mexico, and her wedding at the end of May!)

I am die-hard, regular Amazon shopper and one of things I stumbled upon was this Aztec Secret Healing Clay which as you can see has lots of positive reviews.  Sounded like something worth trying...with friends, of course!

Here's a quick run down of the process:
We followed the directions on the back to a T.  It says to apply a 1/4 inch layer to your face.  Let it dry for 15-20 minutes.  Not our most flattering picture, but we're keeping it real here!
I think applying this mask before a shower would be the best for easier removal.  It kind of hurt cracking off the top layer off with a wet washcloth. However, the three of us thought our faces felt clean and refreshed, and our skin looked dewy, so it's been given Chic & Awe stamp of approval!

Have you tried out any new beauty products lately?  We'd love to hear!

Lauren & Amber

Our Favorite Coffee Mugs

We're pretty sure there isn't a truer statement out there...
[via]

We can't deny that coffee is a driving force behind this blog (well, that and champagne)! ;-)  So if you're going to drink it, you might as well drink it in style!

Here's a roundup of a few of our favorites...

The State of Things

Sometimes the thought of coming up with an original hostess gift can be daunting--so when the same old bottle of wine won't do, we love these personalized state gifts.  Everyone has a little hometown pride, and what are the odds your host or hostess has a cutting board or coasters shaped as their home state?  Don't forget to personalize your home too -- Lauren has a vintage Connecticut tray and Amber has the nautical coasters!
1) Maya Brenner State Necklaces 2) State-shaped Cutting Boards 3) Cat Studio State Pillow 4) Custom Rubber Address Stamp 5) Cork Coasters 6) Nautical Chart Coasters 7) Custom Hometown State Print 8) Vintage State Tray 9) Custom State Pillow

Our favorite things...

We think it's only fitting that our first post feature our can't-live-without items...
BEAUTY PRODUCT:
It is nearly impossible for me to pick ONE beauty product that I can't live without - truth be told I can't live without about 20 of them.  I thought hard and the one I am always reaching for and seems to be the most versatile is Arcona's Magic White Ice.  I was introduced to Arcona at a beauty event at Nordstrom in Las Vegas.  The Arcona representatives looked so different to me than anyone else - they were all glowing and had perfect dewy skin.  So I went by their table got a mini facial and fell in love with their cold pressed cosmeceutical-grade ingredients, such as enzymes, antioxidants and amino acids, which are formulated to work synergistically to deliver powerful results.

JEWELRY:
My pearl earrings and lots of Dogeared necklaces, layered.  I wear them non-stop, in the shower, to the gym, in the pool, at the beach I love how durable they are and I don’t have to worry about ruining them.

COCKTAIL:
Champagne – celebrations, holidays, weekends, and weekdays would just not be the same!

WEBSITE:
I loveee Beauty.com because I am constantly buying products, plus they sell Arcona which is nice!  Also, every 2 months or so they offer a major sample bag with any $100 purchase.  I always hold my purchases until the sample bag comes up.

MUSIC ARTIST/BAND:
Secretly I am a gangster rapper.  Biggie has always and will always be my fave.  East Side and Bad Boy Records forever!  Put on “Juicy” or “I Gotta Story To Tell” and see what happens. This will be awkward to explain to the children.

LUSTING FOR IN MY HOME:
I have a large open living room that has been asking for a credenza for quite some time.  I want to use it for a home bar and am eyeing the options at a nearby vintage furniture store called The Vintage Source.

DRUGSTORE PRODUCTS:
It’s a tie - both are equally important to me in life! I cannot live without Aquaphor, I don’t really remember my life without it.  I have one of these tucked everywhere, purse, gym bag, pencil holder at work, basket on coffee table, night stand, etc.

I have super thick hair that gets tangled easily so when I cannot afford Kerastase Reflection Bain Chroma Riche Luminous Softening Shampoo (longest title for shampoo ever), I cannot live without this alternative.

LUSTING FOR IN MY CLOSET:
I have heard nothing but rave reviews about Alice and Trixie dresses, I love their use of super bold colors.  I NEED this one; it will be perfect for wedding and baby shower season.  Can’t beat the price either, Jane and Georgie has an ahhhmazing online shop.  I was committed after I scored these Elaine Turner flats for $49 - their customer service is awesome!

WEEKEND ESCAPE:
Living close to the Washington D.C. metropolitan area to the North West, and Annapolis – America’s Sailing Capital to the North East, they both make for awesome day, overnight, or weekend escapes.  We recently escaped to Annapolis for a Valentine’s Day dinner with friends.

SIGNATURE SCENT:
Still rocking Chanel Mademoiselle after all these years.

EVERYDAY HANDBAG:
My sister-in-law turned me onto the amazing brand MZ Wallace.  These are the most durable, functional, and stylish bags I have come across yet. Hillary is in and so is Kristin! (Hey girlllll, how’s baby Camden?)

RECIPE:
I love the Mexican, but my hips don’t care for it – so when the craving calls (once a week) these Skinny Enchiladas are my go-to recipe!

FLOWER:
Hydrangea

FASHION PICK:
Without question, I cannot live without my tailor-ess!
BEAUTY PRODUCT:
My mom introduced me to Dermablend when I was in 8th grade and I’ve never looked back – it’s such an amazing concealer.

JEWELRY:
My Jennifer Zeuner monogram necklace is a staple to say the least.  When it comes to jewelry, if it’s gold and monogrammed, you bet I’m wearing it!

COCKTAIL:
I love a good French 75 cocktail!  It’s a delicious concoction of gin, champagne, lemon juice, and simple syrup – I mean honestly, does it get any better?!

WEBSITE:
I’m very lucky that I get to work from home, but it can be so quiet.  It’s nice to turn on Pandora and have some noise around the house besides snoring pugs.  The Paul Simon channel is my go-to, chill station for the workday. Grooveshark is great for those times when you just need to hear a certain song!

SIGNATURE SCENT:
I let my husband pick a fragrance for me when we began dating and he came back with Ralph Lauren Romance - almost ten years later, I'm still wearing it.

EVERYDAY HANDBAG:
This is such a versatile bag - I can fit so many things inside, and of course, I love that it's monogrammed!

LUSTING FOR IN MY HOME:
Gutting the main bathroom in our 195o’s ranch is definitely on my to-do list within the next year.  Anything in a herringbone pattern I get pretty obsessed with, so I would absolutely love to do our entire tub surround with this tile!

MUSIC ARTIST/BAND:
If past lives are real, then I'm pretty sure I was a man at his prime in the 1960’s/70’s in my former life.  So random I know, but I totally love classic rock and Led Zeppelin is just the ultimate.

FLOWER:
Ranunculus

LUSTING FOR IN MY CLOSET:
A Temperley London honeycomb cardigan – it’s sooo not happening, but a girl can dream, right?

RECIPE:
I have made these salted fudge brownies so many times since Food & Wine first published it in 2008, I actually have the recipe memorized.  They always turn out perfectly and get devoured at every event I bring them to.  Seriously, make them, you'll thank me later.

DRUGSTORE PRODUCTS:
Burt’s Bees Pomegranate Chapstick & Almay Eye Makeup Remover Pads are daily staples in my life and nice and easy on the budget -- a win-win!

WEEKEND ESCAPE:
Newport, RI is only a little over an hour away, so my husband Andrew & I try and go at least once a year.  It's the perfect combination of small town charm with breathtakingly gorgeous mansions, right on the Atlantic. I recommend visiting The Breakers if you go (it was the Vanderbilt's "Summer Cottage" -- yep, you read that right!)

FASHION PICK:
My Tory Burch Gold Sophie Wedges are the perfect shoe I can dress up or down.  I would love to get a pair of Revas next.

So now it's your turn, tell us your favorites in life!  We'd love to hear!

XOXO,
Lauren & Amber
